PSYCHOLOGICAL THERAPIES
COGNITIVE BEHAVIOUR THERAPY (CBT)
CBT is the most frequently used type of therapy. It is based on the idea that our actions and thoughts control our feelings.
DIALECTICAL BEHAVIOUR THERAPY (DBT)
DBT provides techniques aimed at managing strong emotions and improving relationships with others. It focuses on changing unhelpful thoughts and behaviours.
EYE MOVEMENT DESENSITISATION AND REPROCESSING (EMDR)
EMDR can include bilateral eye stimulation (looking left to right) whilst briefly focusing on a traumatic memory. This evidence-based therapy may reduce the vividness and emotions of the memory.
SCHEMA THERAPY
Schema therapy aims to increase awareness of core emotional needs and to develop helpful ways of meeting these. It may include processing childhood memories.
